We whiz through De Kevie nature reserve, on the green banks of the Jeker. This river accompanies us on our journey through picturesque Walloon villages such as Glons, Roclenge-sur-Geer and Bassenge. The Jeker, Geer in French, rises just across the language border and meanders through Tongeren to Maastricht, where it joins the Meuse. The watercourse here burrows deep into the sandstone. Along the way you pass marl quarries where the famous "Maastrichter sandstone" has been extracted for many centuries.
